Firstly, not all hair types are best styled at the maximum temperature of 210 or higher – which is extremely hot! The maximum temperature is great if you have thick, course or naturally resilient hair in good condition. But for fine hair, perhaps bleached, chemically treated or fragile, just try dropping the temperature down to about 160 or less and with all those negative ions flying about, you’ll still get perfect results! For normal hair in good condition around 190 is recommended, particularly if you use your straighteners most days of the week. The second good reason for having a variable temperature control is that it gives you much more freedom when styling. For example poker straight fringes don’t always look so ‘natural’.
