No you don’t need to pay Dutch road tax (as you are just visiting and not resident) The motorways are also toll-free (unlike some countries) so it’s pretty easy to drive. Petrol is a tad more expensive though It is important that you have the right equipment and documents though in case you get stopped, and by law all people (including tourists) >14 years old have to carry official ID with them at all times, so take this into account as well. Also don’t forget the headlamp reflectors (diverting the beams the other way). If you are stopped then the police will make easy pickings if you don’t have them.
