Do i need plants in my freshwater tank?

You dont NEED plants, but they are benefical to the tank. They absorb nutrients (ammonia, nitrate, phosphate etc) from the water and provide good cover for the smaller fish. If they are growing well then just keep trimming them as needed. It’s like have a real lawn as opposed to concrete or astroturf. You have to mow it, but it’s much nicer to walk on.
