Do I need planning permission to put in roof lights or Dorma windows in my house?
You do not normally need planning permission to insert roof lights, or Velux style windows in your home as they do not alter the plane of the original roof. However Dorma windows which protrude from the roof in many cases will require planning permission. These rules change if you live in a conservation area, the building is listed or your property is affected by planning conditions. This is because your permitted development rights may be restricted and you are therefore advised to contact the local planning authority.
