Fishhawk Ranch is nowhere near inland enough for you to consider it unlikely to be hit. It is only about 10 miles inland from the bay. In 2004, Hurricane Charley caused major damage to Orlando after passing over the state – I beleive the track had it over land for more than 100 miles before it reached Orlando, still a CAT 1, obviously much further inland than Fishhawk Ranch. Unless you have enough money set aside to recover from a major loss, it is foolish to own a building in Florida without a hurricane policy. When you can not find a private insurer, you should contact the state run insurer – Citizens. It is difficult to get private coverage in general, but nearly impossible during hurricane season. You may have better luck finding a private policy during the off-season.
