No. The BIB program is structured so that a student can start at a beginner’s level. Students who do have some fluency in their language of choice (i.e. French, German, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese or Spanish) would start at an appropriately higher level. Students with more than a very basic familiarity with one of the languages are required to choose a language in which their skills are low and can be demonstrably improved.
