Do I need/have to know a lot about coffee to work in a Cafe? And how much would the average coffee shop pay?
It depends if you want to work at a local coffee shop or a chain coffee shop.
A chain coffee shop like Coffee Bean or Starbucks has a more intense hiring process than a Mom-and-Pop cafe. You have to pass certain personality tests, etc. and they generally pay minimum wage or up to $10/hr. The pros to working at a place like Starbucks or Coffee Bean is that you can work weekends or nights so that you can still go to school. Plus, they will take a week to train you well.
A smaller cafe will not have the flexible hours, but it might be easier to get hired there in the first place. The pay is similar no matter where you work. A small cafe might not take the time to train you.
