Do I need an Internet connection for the TivoHD?

You will need an Internet connection for guided setup. The TiVo retrieves guide and lineup information from its servers on the Internet. Most people without access to an ethernet connection buy the TiVo wireless adapter. But a better option for FiOS users with an Actiontec router is the Motorola NIM-100. A Motorola NIM-100 is a small box that gives you a 100Mbps ethernet connection to your Actiontec router over the existing coax cable in your home. Basically, you plug the coax into the NIM-100, then run coax from the NIM-100 to the TiVo (its a passthrough), and ethernet from the NIM-100 to the TiVo. This provides a faster connection than wireless. You can ask if the Verizon installer has a NIM-100, but most likely they will not. Motorola NIM-100s are not available at retail, but they can often be found on ebay for $30 or so.
