Do i need an internal examination?
Hi, On the whole you wont have an internal examination until you are in labour and that is just to see how dilated you are. The ‘internal’ i think your midwife is talking about is whats called a membrane sweep and it is done at around a week after your due date (if you havent had the baby obviously lol) this is to see if they can start labour before the chemical induction, which they do around 10 days after your due date. I had a sweep with my first, its not really painful just a bit un comfty and as you say embarrasing, but trust me ive since had another baby and the 2nd time round its so not embarrassing anymore because you know they really have seen it all befoer. Click on the link below and it will tell you all about a membrane weep. Good luck and you never know you might not need one if labour starts before then. by which time you REALLY REALLY wont care about internals!
