Do I need a soil test for ratoon crops?
No. Soil sampling prior to the plant crop will inform nutrient requirements for the crop cycle. Soil sampling must occur within the 12 months prior to the commencement of a new plant cane crop. The most effective time to sample is just after harvest of the last ratoon of the previous crop cycle. Soil sampling can also be done in late crop cycle ratoons where fallow legumes are to be planted.
