Do I need a new Blu-ray player, cable box, game console, or AV receiver?
With one notable exception–the Sony PS3–the answer for Blu-ray players is “yes.” No Blu-ray player maker has said it will upgrade existing standalone players to work with Blu-ray 3D movies, so a new 3D Blu-ray player will be required for many viewers to view the new 3D Blu-rays Sony told CNET at CES that the PS3 will support 3D Blu-ray playback with full 1080p resolution to each eye via a simple software update, available later this year.
