Do I need a maths related degree to become a chartered accountant?
You will be pleased to hear that many firms of chartered accountants do not specify a degree subject when recruiting graduates. They may specify a particular grade (for example, at least a 2:1 or 2:2) but are not too concerned about the subject discipline. Some may also be interested in your A level results and may specify a minimum points score. Although maths beyond GCSE level may not be essential firms will often test numeracy skills during the recruitment process. They will be most interested, however, in your: • personal skills and qualities as evidenced by your degree; • your work experience; • your involvement in extra-curricular activities.
