Do I need a license to rent a boat on coastal waters? How much experience do I need?
I live in the florida keys, and no. You don’t need any special boat license because all you need is a drivers licence. You also need proof of insurance, a little bit of knowledge of how to drive a boat, which is easily explained on the internet. Just search: florida boating licence. It just gives you a little background on boating, such as right of way, the various markers, and boat limitations. It’s free and usually done by kids so that they can drive boats. And depending on what you are doing, you probably don’t need a huge boat like 25 to 38 feet. Unless you are going out into the gulfstream to go fishing, you probably need nothing more than 17 to 25 feet, for just tooling around, swimming and other small things. If you want to go fast, then forget about it. Because most boat rental places don’t allow large engines on their boats, or else insurance would be gouging.
