Do I need a licence to trade on the public highway?
It is the Council’s policy to oppose all street trading other than from approved areas where highway safety will not be impaired. To sell goods on such sites a trader’s licence must be obtained from the Council. It is illegal to erect signs or stalls for the sale of produce within the highway, and this includes the grass verges. However, produce can be sold from the land on which it is grown.
