Do i need a doctors degree to be a clinical psychologist ?
You need a postgraduate doctorate degree in clinical psychology yes, but not an undergraduate degree in medicine (just incase you are thinking of a general ‘doctors’ qualification!) This gives you the right to use the title “Dr”. To become a chartered clinical psychologist in the UK you need a BA/BSc (honours) degree that is classified as at least a 2:1 and that is accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS). Accreditation is essential and the 2:1, although not technically essential, is pretty much a requirement because entry to the doctorate in clinical psychology is incredibly competitive so they only take on the very best. Incase you are not sure a 2:1 is the grade that your degree gets based on your performance. The next and best grade is a 1st and either of these is suitable for the clinical doctorate. The clinical doctorate (such as a D.Clin.Psy) takes 3 years of full time study on top of the 3 or 4 years taken for the BA/BSc (hons) degree so you are looking at up to 7
