Do I have to take the TExES if I am minoring in English?

0

If you are only getting a regular minor, you do not have to take the TExES or take the Education classes. However, State law stipulates that anyone seeking teacher certification in a particular teaching area must pass the TExES (The examination for Teacher Certification in Texas) exam in that area. If you are using your minor in English as a second teaching field, you MUST be certified in your major, and you will have to take the TExES exam in English as well as the required Education blocks, which now include 9 hours of Reading (READ 3325, 3327 and 4351).
