Do I have to speak French to visit Semur-en-Auxois?
Although it is extremely helpful to know at least some of the more common French words and phrases, it is not necessary to know the French language to experience all Semur-en-Auxois has to offer. There is a tourist bureau in the centre-ville (the oldest and most central part of the town), where there is usually at least one person who speaks English. In addition, many of the locals speak at least partial English. In our experience the people of Semur have always been extremely friendly and willing to help foreigners, whether they speak French or not.
