Do i have to mix oil in with the petrol in a mac 538 chainsaw?
Chainsaws are all (in my experience) 2 stroke engines and they need mixed petrol and oil. If you use too little oil you will damage the bearings so if you have no information go for a 20 petrol to one oil mix. Get proper 2 stroke oil and add 50 ml to 1 litre (about the same as 1/2 pint or 250 ml to a 1 UK gallon can). Do check that the saw has oil in its oil tank though. This is to lubricate the chain and it is special sticky “power saw chain oil” if you have none something like EP90 gear oil woudl do but dont run it with no oil and if you use a thin motor oil it will run out very fast so you’d need to check the oil more often than it runs out of fuel. As said by others, chain saws can do a lot of damage to you or someone near you. Falling out of a tree with a chainsaw is not a good idea so don’t start your new hobby with those two elements at once! Always wear eye protection. You cannot see to do anything safely with bits in your eyes.
