I assume you are referring to wages earned in 2008, right? If the employer didn’t take out taxes, he may just be paying you “under the table”. If he did not report anything to the IRS, then they have no record of your wages…….so…….um…… Normally, if they are not taking out taxes, you are considered an independent contractor, and the employer will file a 1099 form. This informs the government of your wages, and if you do not file your tax return on time they will come looking for you. If you file your taxes, then the government is going to look at your return and wonder why your employer didn’t report it, didn’t withhold taxes, didn’t pay his own taxes (unemployment, SSI, etc…), and your employer would get in trouble. So…..ask your employer what’s up before you proceed.
