Do I have to drink a lot of water for an ultrasound if I am 16 weeks pregnant?

I was told to drink a lot of water. I made it halfway thru my ultrasound and I could not hold it anymore. The tech told me I drank too much!

I don’t really think it maters how much water you drink.

yes specially for the “big” Ultrasound at 16 weeks they make you have a full bladder.

Hi there honey. Just follow the directions that they give you. If they want you to drink a certain amount of water ( I used Fruit juice) they will tell you. You usually have to drink it about 30 to 60 minutes before your ultrasound is actually scheduled. I remember this as being the hardest thing I had to do while I was pregnant. The rest room is right there nearby and you can jump off the table and run when it is over! I have heard of some places that insert a catheter and fill your bladder that way. I would rather drink the water! It has been quite awhile since I did this so it may have changed a bit, as I said, get directions from the place that is doing the ultrasound. They are your best source of advice. Good luck honey!

I know what you mean about drinking what they tell you to drink. What I learned, though, is if you cut back on it too much they won’t get as good a picture. There’s a reason they tell you drink what they do; so if you’re going to drink less don’t drink too much less than recommended.
