Do I have the right to complain about my colleges requirements for Business majors?
Talk to the counselor about your stress. Then see your adviser about your concerns with your course requirements. Many times your adviser will be able to allow you to take a different course or be able to tell you if something you have already taken will work instead. Talking to the dean won’t get you anywhere. The course requirements are tough for a reason, to make sure that the students in this major are dedicated and not just taking it because it sounded fun or easy. You should also check with your adviser to see if your school provides tutors for accounting/math students. Many schools have grad students to tutor undergrads.
Unfortunately, these courses are requirements because they weed out people. In order to apply for Business at my University, you need to take Calculus and Statistics – these are generally “harder” courses, so they eliminate a lot of people. If you could just take sociology to pad your GPA, then people would be doing that and a 4.0 would be the requirement for entry. I’m numerically challenged and I passed calculus and stats. I took them both in my first semester of my first year of school. It was hell, I didn’t sleep, I had monthly breakdowns. But I got a tutor and learned enough so that I could pass. Also, since the class was marked according to the bell curve, my mark was even higher. You shouldn’t quit on your dream because of calculus. Just bite the bullet and take the course.
