Do i have dependant personality disorder?
I don’t personally have this illness, but I’ve studied it quite a bit in some of my psychology classes. The most outstanding thing about those with Dependent Personality Disorder is that it is characterized by excessive and unrealistic fears of separation and a high need to be taken care of. With that said, there are 8 criteria, some of which you have cited. To be diagnosed properly, one must meet at least 5 of the 8 criteria, it must interfere with your regular daily life, and it must not be caused by a general medical condition. I think you’re stretching the criteria just a bit and therefore probably shouldn’t be diagnosed as of right now, but I am not a professional yet and therefore I really encourage you to seek out someone who is. I say that you are stretching it a bit because it appears to me that you are only excessively needy, but not quite in the range of having a disorder with it.
