NHS dentists are contracted to provide preventative work as well as restoration. To remove your teeth and replace with dentures goes against the system. Dentures as well as they may fit are never as good as your own teeth. You need to find an NHS dentist that provides or refers for sedation dentistry and this may well help you overcome your phobia and allow the treatment required to take place. The maximum you can pay will be about 190 pounds to get you dentally fit in one course of treatment. Modern dentistry has improved greatly and is not as difficult or as unpleasant as you may think o it is worth another though. So, no you cannot demand a dentist do give you dentures under the NHS. You may be able to negotiate with a private based dentist to meet your needs but you will find it hard to find one to actually do it for you. But if you cannot afford the NHS fees then private dentistry is not for you.

There are many sides to this question. You as the patient have overall authority on what treatment you want to be carried out within your mouth. A dentist must have consent from you if there are to carry out any treatment. Therefore if you do not want the extensive restorative treatment that is being offered the dentist cannot force you. All the dentist can do is give you all the necessary information for you to make an informed decision. This being said, you cannot demand treatment from a dentist. Dentists cannot not provide treatment for the simple reason that they dont want to but if they feel that a specific treatment is not the correct treatment or that it would have a detrimental effect on other teeth or the health of the patient they are not forced or obliged to perfrom this treatment. Your dentist is probably refusing to give you a denture because this is not the best treatment option for you. You should seek help with your dental phobia and maybe ask to be referred to a dentis
