Do i get my 6 month old Bengal female another kitten friend?
It’s a great idea! My kitten is 9 months old now, and I really want to get him a friend too (my boyfriend is saying no at the moment…. i’m working on him!) As long as you introduce them carefully, and perhaps try to do it either this bank holiday or the one at the end of May, when you can take a few days off work and be at home with them for a few days, it should be absolutely fine. I’d say that if you’re getting a very young kitten and you have to go out to work, I’d keep the two cats separate whilst you’re out of the house until you know that your older cat can be trusted. This is a perfect time to do it as your cat is still young, playful and sociable. As long as you give your current cat lots of attention and don’t let the new kitten take over your cat’s belongings, food bowl, bedding or favourite sleeping spots, your new cat should be fine. Good luck. I’m so jealous!
I’m to the point, now, that I would never consider getting just one kitten. A playmate is a must!~ Ideally, getting them together, preferable litter mates, or kittens fostered together in the shelter system take all the fuss and worry out of the “getting to know you” phase, which can be long, dramatic, and in the case of much older cats set in their ways, occasionally not too successful . I would definitely plan on getting another, but I would wait until you have some vacation time, when you can be handy to give lots of love and attention in both directions. There are lots of resources regarding adding a second kitten or cat into the house hold, but one I found helpful was “Cat vs Cat: Keeping Peace When You Have More Than One Cat” by Pam Johnson-Bennett. It is full of ideas on how to introduce a new cat into the household, how to observe their interactions and interpret the “hidden” meanings behind them, and lots of tips on what you will actually have to provide for two cats that I wou
