Do i get a stimulas check if my income was unemployment benifits?

If the unemployment compensation was your ONLY income reported on your tax return you are eligible for the stimulus rebate ONLY if you received enough to owe at least $300 in Federal income tax on it if Single or $600 if Married Filing Jointly. If your tax liability is LESS than the above amounts you must have at least $3,000 in Qualifying Income to be eligible for a stimulus rebate. Unemployment compensation is NOT Qualifying Income under the rebate plan rules. To be eligible in this situation you would need at least $3,000 in wages, Social Security benefits, Railroad Retirement benefits or VA pension benefits in addition to the unemployment compensation. If you are not eligible at this time, you may be eligible when you file your 2008 tax return in 2009. Anyone who receives less than the maximum rebate this year will have a second chance at the rebate next year when they file.
