Do Hyacinths require a special diet?
Hyacinth Macaws in the wild have a diet very high in fat and in captivity the majority of their diet consists of Macadamia and Brazil nuts although they are fond of all types of mixed nuts. They also have coconut, papaya, banana, melon and a full assortment of other fruits and vegetables which they consume small amounts of compared to the nuts. Some will choose to eat seed, pellets and Zupreem on occasion. For a healthy, happy Hyacinth, it is essential their special dietary needs are met.
