Yes, by law, humans have the right to test upon animals; however, there are many restrictions and laws pertaining to this practice. There are laws for animals that control experiments or other scientific procedures that protect animals from experiments that may cause pain, suffering, distress or lasting harm. Protected animals include mammals, birds, reptiles, fish, and amphibians. Any test that is done on an animal must be done in a laboratory that has a certificate from the Home Office indicating that it meets the required standards. All experiments must be approved and conducted under the authority of a project license. Any animal tested upon in these laboratories must be under an anesthetic to prevent it from experiencing discomfort or pain. But do they completely escape pain?
