Do heuristics and biases play a major role in the success/failure of an IT project?
Answer Hi Shykhan, I hope that you had a very nice holiday season. Heuristics and biases may play a role in the success or failure of an IT project. It generally depends on the nature of the project and who the champion is for the project. If the champion is high enough in the organization then the liklihood of bias or heuristics declines in porportion to how high the champion is. This is because this person will ask the questions (or should be) which will uncover any biases or heuristics. I have seen projects succeed because of this and also fail because of the covering up of the heuristics and biases. In general any IT project must fit the need of the orgaization and this must first be demonstrated clearly and sucintly. All of the processes needed must be covered with in the structure of the implementation to ensure success. Failure to do so will lead to failure of the implementation. I am unable to speak to my organization, sorry.
