Do Graduates of Economics and Similar Courses Have an Edge Over the Layman? Tuesday September 2, 2003#spacer{clear:left}#abc #sidebar{margin-top:1.5em}zSB(3,3)For some reason, whenever I mention that I’m working on my Ph.D. in Economics, people seem to assume that I have some special investing knowledge. A couple of years ago my dentist solemnly asked me if I could give him any stock tips. For better or for worse, though, we don’t learn any practical information about the stock market in undergraduate economics courses. In Microeconomics, we do learn how prices, such as stock prices, represent the collective information of the participants of the market, so unless you know a lot more than most investors, you’re likely to get hosed. That’s why I found the following article so interesting: Walter Updegrave at CNN Money in an article called Degree vs. Inve
