Do german gymnasiums serve lunch at school?
Gymnasien (not Gymnasiums : ) ) don’t have school cafeterias in the same sense that American schools do, but most schools have kiosks that serve snacks, sandwiches, and sometimes hot lunches. There are typically two dedicated fifteen-minute snack periods, but no dedicated lunch period. The German school day is divided into 10-12 Stunden (periods that last 45 minutes, despite the fact that they’re called “hours”) and students usually only attend 3-8 Stunden a day. There’s usually a 1-2 Stunde/n break in the middle of the day, where students are allowed to visit the kiosk, eat a packed lunch, or even go off campus, if they want, no matter what point they’re at in their Gymnasium career.
