Yes. Calories are a measure of energy derived from foods/beverages; I think it’s something like this: 1 calorie = the energy necessary to bring 1 oz. of water to boiling, or something like that. An easy way to think about it is that the body needs energy to function, and that energy comes from what we eat. Fruits and veggies are an excellent source of that energy since it’s natural energy, not processed or refined. However, there are some exceptions where your body uses more energy in the digestive process than you get from the food you eat, for example celery. Hope this helps!

Yes, all calories count toward a daily total, but there’s not many calories in fruit and veggies, and the calories you get from fruit and veggies are high in value because of the nutrition, vitamins and minerals you get. You can’t eat 50 pounds of fruit and not expect to gain weight, because everything has to be in moderation (and you still have to burn more calories than you take in), but if you’re going to consume calories, fruits and veggies are a great way to go!
