Do freshmen have to live on campus?

No, it is not required to live on campus, but it is a great way to meet people.

All freshman who are not commuting from home, are required to live on campus. We have beautiful new freshman residence halls and a First Year Experience Program.

It is not mandatory for freshmen to live on campus their first year. However, we do encourage it. Residents who live on campus stay in school longer, are more likely to graduate, and usually have a more positive college experience than those who live off campus. Being close to classrooms, faculty, campus facilities and activities give on-campus students an advantage. The friendships that develop between residents will be strong and more than likely last a lifetime.

UH freshmen are welcome to live on campus in our first-rate residence halls, but they aren’t required to. They’re also welcome to choose from a wide range of affordable, comfortable apartments in easy walking distance of campus.
