Do frequent occurrences of yeast infections or epididymitis increase your chances of contracting an STI?
Yeast or Candida Albicans can be in the vagina. There are many organisms in the vagina that live in balance. Changes in the acid/base balance in the vagina can cause any one of them to grow more than they usually would. This is often the cause of recurrent yeast infections. Many things can cause a change in this balance, including where you are in your menstrual cycle. In most cases, recurrent yeast infections have nothing to do with STIs. Some people who have recurring infections of any kind or sores that do not heal are later found to have HIV, but these symptoms are not the cause of STIs. Epididymitis is an inflammation of part of the male genitals. On occasion, it is because of an infection such as Chlamydia or Gonorrhea, but it can also be caused by other problems that are not infections at all. Recurrent epididymitis should be checked out by your doctor. Frequent occurrences of these problem do not increase your chances of contracting an STI.
