Do fluorescent bulb produce UVB light or UVA light?

0

They’re not *supposed* to emit UV light. The mercury inside a fluorescent bulb vaporizes and ionizes, producing photons predominantly at wavelengths 253 and 185nm. These are UVC wavelengths according to the link I found cited below. The white phosphor coating on the inside of a fluorescent bulb is supposed to absorb all this UV light and re-emit it at a longer wavelength. The idea is that all that UV is converted from potentially dangerous “black” light into visible and safe colors of light. In practice, I’m sure some UV always gets through. How much is probably dependent on how good a fluorescent bulb you have. I wouldn’t worry that the lamp will harm the iguana.
