Do FireWire drives function in full duplex or half duplex mode?
FireWire hard disk storage devices operate in half duplex mode. This means that it is impossible for them to read and write data at the same time. If you are attempting to do a task that requires these functions (such as recording and playing back while sequencing in either an audio or video program), then FireWire storage is not what you need. Although, it is an excellent means for archiving your already created projects.
