Why will I accept something the premise of which I do not believe to be correct? The asker premised his point of view with the word “primarily” and there lies the problem. In fact, in your example above, Pinoys now do not say “Mil nueve sientos nuventa y nueve”, but simply 1999 (Nineteen ninety nine, in English). When we count, it is either in English or in Tagalog. In a bar, we say “Dalawang beer, please”. I also made a comment in this resolved question. I do respect people’s points of view, and did concede that there is Spanish influence in our culture, disagreeing only with the “primarily” descriptor. But I detest the label on Filipinos as having “pride that leaves room for ignorance and denial”. People do not have the right to impose their thoughts on anyone, and should be careful about labeling an entire race. Just like an answerer who calls us idiots, whom I am reporting.
