Do fellows qualify for OHIP while here?
After a 3 month waiting period, the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) will cover basic health expenses for fellows while here as a trainee. They are not covered for dental procedures and similar expenses. Fellows must purchase the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) from the Faculty PGME Office to cover basic health expenses during the first 3 months until OHIP takes effect. UHIP premiums are calculated based on number of dependents. Further information is available on the PGME Office website.
