Do feel then there is not enough awareness among women about the risk of cardiovascular disease?
I don’t think there is enough awareness among women because there are not enough publicity or high profile cases. Like breast cancer, we know people that had it but we don’t know many people who have heart surgery. It’s awareness and I think it’s the high-profile people and breast cancer, which is pretty common too. Do you believe there is a gender gap? In my practice here, I don’t see a gender gap but there are gender gaps if you go into certain areas of the community. Say we go to Mississippi or a different part. We live in a more sophisticated community in the northeast, not in the slum. But if you go into the Indian reservations and things like that, there are different parts where there is a gender gap, but not where I practice. In those areas, why do you think the gender gap exists? It’s the same old thing, not enough awareness. Men are more important and women just take care of children and take care of households.
