You say you’re American so i’m not 100% sure whether you mean Football as in “Soccer” or American Football …im assuming “Soccer”. But to answer your question, only the very best of players will places/streets named after them. Sometimes payers who aren’t that great but are national heroes will have extra special treatment in their home countries, like Park Ji-Sung from South Korea pays for Manchester United. And I dont know if you know, but they’re probably the biggest club in the World, and seeing as South Korea isn’t the best Footballing nation, its a big deal for him to be playing for them. So, he has a street named after him. And another Manchester United legend, is Irishman George Best (who is now dead), he even has an Airport named after him, its no longer Belfast International Airport, but George Best International Airport.
