Do faculty encourage their students to choose either academia or practice?
Most faculty advise students in both the thesis option of the program and the practicum option in the program. That is, most faculty advise students who are planning careers in applied settings and students who are planning careers in academia (after obtaining a Ph.D.). However, some faculty do have preferences, and thus applicants should ask faculty about their preferences before applying to the program and choosing to work with a particular faculty member.
