Do Eureka Springs AR and Harrison AR get tornadoes?

0

Being a native Arkansan, this is right up my alley! Eureka Springs and Harrison are in the Northwestern area of the state, which is quite mountainous. While, yes, it is possible for tornadoes to hit in that area, it is not as likely as in central and southern Arkansas. If you look at a map of Arkansas, there is a freeway that runs from the Southwest to about Memphis. That’s the interstate that oddly enough most of our tornadoes run along. Now, I’m not saying that it is not possible, or never has happened, because we are in “Tornado Alley”, but the likelihood because of the mountains is lessened. What usually happens is the Tornadoes that originate in Oklahoma will subside or skirt around toward central Arkansas, or hit northward to Kansas or Missouri.
