Do Ethics Rules Apply to April Fools Day Pranks?
Do Ethics Rules Apply to April Fool’s Day Pranks? Wednesday April 7, 2010 New York attorney Eric Turkewitz decided to play a little joke on April Fool’s Day, announcing he was the new official White House law blogger. Well the The New York Times thought it was “fact” and apparently, before double-checking the veracity of the claim, published a story on it. Oops. After realizing its mistake, the New York Times was surely a bit embarrassed, but the story pretty much ended there — until a legal blogger brought up the idea that Turkewitz’s prank may have been an ethics violation. Call me crazy, but this looks like a hypo that could appear on a law school exam in Professional Responsibility. Have a look and see what you think. H/t Above the Law. Comments (0)See All Posts
