Do ESL teachers speak Spanish and/or many different languages?
No, many ESL teachers do not speak Spanish. KCS students speak over seventy languages. ESL teachers hold degrees in ESL pedagogy and are certified teachers. ESL teachers do not translate their lessons in each student’s first language because Tennessee is an English-only state. This law requires all teachers to deliver instruction in English. ESL teachers are sometimes proficient in other languages due to their love of languages. However, an ESL teacher primarily provides English language instruction.
