Do employees receive pay for accrued vacation on termination?
The term accrued vacation indicates that an employee has accumulated time that may be used currently. If the employee does not have the opportunity to take actual days off due to the termination of employment (voluntarily or involuntarily) many vacation policies will pay wages or salary for the number of accrued vacation days. However, unless required by state law, your organization is not required to have a policy that allows employees to receive cash for unused accrued vacation on termination. Be sure to check State Laws for the law that applies in your state(s). Reprinted with permission.
