Do dogs paws get cold in the snow?

0

Dogs do get cold feet in the snow, the snow “balls” up in thier toes if they’ve hairy feet and I’ve seen my (long haired) Collie with snow compacted all up her legs, belly and tail when we’ve gone any distance in the snow. Quite dangerous this as they can actually get frost bite! We have to stop and pull the snow off before it gets too close to her skin. They can also get “hot aches” when they come inside and the circulation gets going again. This is really painful (like pins and needles, but burning at the same time) and the poor things will hop about, lick the feet and walk on tip toes till it wears off! Guess the answer is to not walk your dog too long in the snow! (Not an option for me as we are on a farm in rural Scotland and dogs are working here) Does anyone know where to buy thermal dog socks or wellies? Think my guys would love that!!! PS Cats can get it too – I think any animal with “soft” paws would!
