Do DirecTV boxes need land lines? Is a phone connection really required or is that just for pay-per-view movies?
DirecTV says you’re supposed to keep the box hooked up to a phone all the time. It wasn’t intentional, but there wasn’t a phone socket near my tv in the living room so I hooked up one of those phone transmitters to the box and the other end of the transmitter in another room. At some point, that end fell out and was lying behind the bed and I didn’t realize it. DirecTV worked fine and they didn’t inform me of any problem. But one day when I tried to order PPV through the box, I couldn’t. I ended up having to call them on the phone to order the movie. But otherwise it was no problem. So bottom line you’re supposed to have a connection, but if you don’t you can get away with it.
