There are different styles of Yoga so it can vary. In general Yoga is about releasing tension by stretching and breathing. Part of this is when breathing slowly and deeply through the nose the body tells the muscles to relax allowing a deeper stretch. When the breathing is shallow and quick the muscles tighten and it makes it more difficult to stretch. In addition to the muscles Yoga also massages the internal organs so each pose has many different benefits. For example standing postures typically help with balance and posture but they can also put pressure on internal organs and glands.
