Do different coffee preparation methods need different types of coffee?
the answer is ‘yes’ and ‘no’ yes in that to make turkish coffee the coffee needs to be ground to a very fine powder (much finer than espresso, think castor sugar or even icing sugar to give you an idea of how fine). to achieve this you are going to need a very high quality grinder, otherwise you will have to use a mortar & pestle to grind fine enough & yes it is a lot of work! the next part of the question i am less qualified to answer as we havent spent much time roasting coffee beans for preparation via the Turkish method, but the coffee i have seen used in turkey is roasted fairly dark, so i think you would be fine with a roast that was intended for espresso preparation Bear in mind that the Turkish method of coffee preparation is ancient, the beans originally being roasted in a pan over an open fire or similar, then allowed to cool & crushed to a powder with mortar & pestle.
