Do departments have to use automatic document numbering?

No. Automatic document numbering is available across all departments for all transactions, but departments may choose to manually enter a 20-character DOC ID for a document or have the system generated an ID. For each transaction, they either enter a DOC ID or click on the auto numbering box.
