Dec. 31–Jerry Jones isn’t the only NFL owner willing to fire a coach with two Super Bowl rings. Pat Bowlen joined the fraternity Tuesday when he relieved Mike Shanahan of his duties as coach of the Denver Broncos. But Jones fired Johnson in 1994 before the Cowboys had even received their second set of Super Bowl rings. Bowlen waited 10 seasons after Shanahan’s last Super Bowl to show him the door. Romeo Crennel managed only one winning season in four at Cleveland and Eric Mangini was 23-25 in his three seasons with the Jets. There was a history of failure in those instances. But Shanahan’s history was of success. He won 60 percent of his career games in the NFL and 61.6 percent of his games as coach of the Broncos. He took Denver to the playoffs seven times and suffered only two losing seasons in his 14-year tenure. A TV studio awai
